This is a contemporary acrylic and enamel with mixed media on canvas. The artist used stencils and oil paint pens. This painting is based on barns with one or more sides painted from 1890-1992 with barn advertisement for West Virginia mail pouch chewing tobacco company (Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company), based in Wheeling West Virginia. These barn signs are designated National Landmarks. The painters of these barns and the most prolific of the bunch, Harley E. Warrick, usually signed their initials on the blue border surrounding the front side or nearer to the roof. This artist decided to sign his name on the blue border to salute and honor these artists that painted these barns. Also signed on the back.
Born in the small Northern Panhandle town of Glen Dale, West Virginia, gH FiLben studied art and music at an early age and loved the self abstract expressionism that painting allowed. He studied art and music throughout his childhood and continued through adulthood. He graduated from John Marshall High School and West Virginia University and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. gH FiLben has an original 48x60x1 abstract and mixed media on canvas called "One Green Circle" hanging proudly in Allen Hall on the WVU campus. Now residing in St. Louis, Missouri, he considers himself a self taught artist who works in a wide variety of mediums.
